Acer palmatum Ibo nishiki

£50.00

Ibo nishiki is a cultivar renowned for its distinctive warty bark and vibrant foliage. The term ‘Ibo nishiki’ translates to ‘warty bark’, aptly describing the tree’s unique texture. Unlike other rough-bark cultivars, such as nishiki gawa or arakawa, Ibo nishiki features more subtle fissures, giving it a distinctive appearance. The leaves emerge greenish-yellow in spring, transitions to light green in summer, and culminates in dark red hues during autumn, from yellow orange to deep crimson, offering a dynamic display throughout the seasons. The small to medium leaves are jagged-toothed, adding to the tree’s ornamental appeal. Leaves are fairly deeply divided into 5 to 7 long ovate lobes. Ibo nishiki is a medium sized tree reaching approximately 3 to 4 meters high and 3 meters wide. The warty characteristics of the bark develop after a few years (3 to 4) and will add texture in the landscape. It is a palmate tree, with finely dissected leaves, tall growing, upright. In spring edges of the leaves have bronze tinged margins, becoming fresh green in summer. Stalks are red. Fairly strong grower this tree offers interest for those looking for special bark textures.
