Acer palmatum Jade Gate

Jade gate is a medium upright tree, reaching 3 to 4.5 meters with a spread of 2.5 – 3.5 meters, in a rounded form. The growth is moderate, with a graceful and spreading habit. The leaves are deeply lobed, as matsumurae types are, into 5 to 7 lobes, deeply cut and tapering toward the tips, giving a feathery, elegant appearance. In spring the leaves emerge bright green with soft highlights that glow in the sunlight. In summer, the leaves retain a vibrant green shade, occasionally with a slight bluish tint. In autumn the colours transforms into brilliant shades of golden yellow, and sometimes deep red, offering spectacular autumn interest. The bark is smooth and greenish brown when young, becoming rougher and greyish with age. This tree will thrive planted under larger trees or alongside shrubs in dappled sunlight.
